We deviated from alburgue living dormitory style to private room with a bath and stayed at Casa de Cantaro last night. Of course with Dick's interest in spanish, the Landlord explained to us it meant a water jug container and not a singer like we thought. The place was lovely and the owners very warm and helpful. Our dinner near the plaza was excellent and Dick raved about it being the best he had eaten on the camino. First course was an excellent spaghetti. The owner was Italian so Dick choose it for the first course. The second course was a pepper dish with squid ink in the sauce. We had tiramisu and another Italian dessert.
We were up early before 6 even though we had no roommates to wake us up. How heavenly to sleep without earplugs and know the bathroom is in the room! We had purchased our breakfast last night instead of eating the crummy hostel breakfast. It is always white bread with jam, orange juice, cereal, and tea or coffee! Instead we got some yogurt and a nectarine each to eat while we were packing up to leave.
However, Dick had a headache so instead of an early departure we left later.
On the camino Dick sets the pace so he is usually in front of me. He loves to chat with the pilgrims specially if they are Spanish speakers. Today loud music came from behind me and I thought a group of bicyclists were singing. Instead, an American girl came by with her loud music which is the first time I heard anyone with their sounds, except for Dick's harmonica. Sure enough when she passed me and came by Dick, he commented on her music and before long she was searching for music he could accompany on the harmonica and he played for a while.
The harmonica is a hit here with children in the plaza or at the hostel when pilgrims request he play or the other might the restaurant owner bought him a drink for playing his harmonica to other pilgrims we were sitting with. An old Spanish bystander also told us he appreciated Dick's music and later bought the two of us a drink!
We are loving walking by the vineyards along the camino. The grapes are bursting out of the vines. They have a deep blue color and are very sweet. Dick picks only those that are on the ground.
Today we reached this milestone post - 592 km to Santiago (out of 790 km)!
