Day 40. Cacabelos to Trabadelo. 17.2 Rest day for me

Today is my last night here in Astorga. I have been laying low in the hotel and the staff has been great.  Simon always gets me a bag of ice for my knees and Ramon was helping me figure out transportation to Sarria.  We decided train was best and this meant me taking a taxi to the train station today to buy my ticket and then taking the taxi back to the hotel.  I was eating my breakfast and then Ramon disappeared and came back with my train ticket.  He drove to the train station without telling me and was back in a jiffy with my ticket.  I was so appreciative of him doing it for me.  What a sweetheart!  With my sore knee it is hard to navigate to go anywhere and he was sparing me the agony of going to the station.

However,  today I felt a little better walking and since the sun was out, I had washed my hair and used a blow dryer and it was my last full day here I thought i should walk to the garden on the other side of my street.  On the way, saw some roman ruins of the First century.  The mosaic tiles  were still intact.  The garden was lovely.  After the walk, my knees hurt and my legs were tired.

Here is my view from my room balcony.

Spain is full of surprises.  I went down for dinner to the plaza and was surprised to see a military band performing and a town full of people and dignitaries.  It is a 75th year anniversary of something in the military being here.  Not sure because I did not fully understand what the man I asked said.  The patriotic music was uplifting and got the people next to me singing.

Dick called earlier than usual and I was glad to hear from him. I forgot to tell him I had found a towel for him.  I think the miles are catching up on him as he is not covering the distances he thought he would.  He is at least 3 days from Sarria.  We are meeting at a casa rural Rectoral de Goian.  The place is all booked tomorrow so I will stay at a hotel near the train station and will be picked up the next day to go to Goian.  This place was recommended by the tour group we met on the trail.
