Day 34. Leon to Villar de Mazarife. 22.2 km.

We had another great breakfast at the Parador and left late.  My knees felt great yesterday so I decided to walk today.  It was a mistake.  The camino out of Leon is all pavement through the city and so it was not nice at all.  My knees were hurting and by the time we reached the next town, Virgen del Camino which was only 7 km or so from Leon, I could barely walk.  There were no buses to Villa de Mazarife and taxis were 25 euro.  There was a bus to Villadangos del Paramo and two other pilgrims got on it.  I gave Dick his lunch and he wanted to walk on so I told him we would call each other to hopefully meet up.  He was going to send my pack on if we ended up in a different town.  The bus ride cost less than 2 euros.  I thought I could taxi to Villar de Mazarife for much less.  however upon getting to Villadangos, the streets were empty, the bus driver had directed me to the cafe for a taxi call.  The taxi was coming from Hospital de Orbigo 12 km. away and my fare was 22 euros.  I really did not save any money by taking the bus.

Unfortunately, I can't  walk tomorrow and will again call a cab for the same price to get me to Hospital de Orbigo and then take a bus to Astorga.

Arrived at the hostal with a very sore knee and I have been packing it with ice and my legs are up on a chair.  It is 5:30 and Dick is still not here.  Almost 6 and Dick just arrived!
