Cabo Sao Vincente is at the southwestern most tip of Europe. In the Middle Ages it was called the end of the world. It is just outside of Sagres and 5 minutes down the road from our campground.
It had been cloudy skies most of the week so he checked the weather forecast. He assured us of a good sunset. We toured the fort, and had a late lunch. The sunset was at 8:18 but the recommendation was to be there an hour before. Also it would be very windy and cold so we brought a sleeping bag, wore all our warm clothes and we were prepared.
There was only a handful of people when we arrived. Shortly, three bus loads of American college kids arrived. They were on a three day holiday from Madrid, Sevilla and other Spanish cities. They were all exchange students. They were a great bunch of kids and were very friendly. They loved being abroad and some kids were traveling abroad for the first time. They were so unprepared for the cold and wind. They had come from the beach and were in t -shirts and shorts.
It wasn't a very sunny day. The sun was peeking in and out all day. However, as the sun set the colors began to change and the sunset was spectacular.
It is amazing to think that you can be looking out to the ocean as far as you can see and just see water. Then to think that the next landfall is the Americas. Pretty awesome!
The beautiful cliffs, the navy blue water and the spectacular sunset makes the Cape such a memorable place.
