Acoutin

Today April 25 is a big holiday in Portugal.  I was told it is like our 4th of July.  We heard 5 cannon shots this morning at our campsite and it is noon and the church bells are ringing.  The Portuguese are celebrating their outster of their Fascist government.

We are in Acoutin, sitting by the river.  Very tranquil and quiet and it is a nice sunny, warm day.

This is a border town, across the narrow river is Spain. Over the centuries it was controlled by the Romans, Byzantines, Moors and Christian  It was also a haven for smugglers.

It is our last night on the campervan and we are covering a lot of miles to get to Evora.  We had a lovely lunch of dorado fish and meat and rice at Mertola.  We finally got to Evora by 6 p.m. And now in a nice campsite.  It has been very warm today, we had the air conditioner in the van most of the way. Dick was thrilled to see the camp pool open.
