Day 3 Marinhas to Viana de Costelo

When you think it will get easier, it doesn't.  Although I am walking like a trooper, carrying a backpack climbing up and down hills and just managing it well, towards the end of the walk I am so dead tired and wobbling into town.  I could not believe we had to cross this 1 km. And 800 meters bridge across the river to get into Viana de Costelo on rush hour.  I was afraid I would collapse on the road and get run over.  The pedestrian walkway was super skinny.

The days walk brought us a bit away from the coast but still we viewed it from the hills. We passed many vegetable farmlands.  We also walked through a lot of neighborhoods with beautiful homes and gardens and all along the cobbled stone roads were wall stones fencing the homes.  It was picturesque and the blooming flowers were phemomenal.  The cobbled stones were hard on our feet and legs!  We walked along the woods, with a river and stopped for lunch.  The Belgian couple Andrew and Eve and called us as we passed by so we stopped and they went on and we had our lunch.

Again we had started about 8 a.m. And arrived at the hostel after 6 pm.  The only beds left were on the upper bunk.  I made my bed from the ground reaching up and told Dick I would be able to get up.  We then went out to dinner.  By the time we got back shortly before 10 pm, everyone was in bed asleep.  For the life of me I just couldn't climb the upper bunk bed even with Dick trying to give me a push.  The thought also of climbing down in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and climbing up again was too much to consider.  I asked Dick to pull the mattress off the bunk bed and bring it to the small dining room.  He was protesting but I convinced him there was no way I could climb up.  All these were going on while a dozen pilgrims were asleep in this small, tight room!  Dick laid the mattress on the dining room floor and I had a private room, free from the snorers while I also saved the pilgrims from hearing me snore!

We have been running into two Canadian girls, Helen and Carol.  They are with a self guided tour.  Every night they check in to a pre assigned hotel.  I asked them for the hotel they were going to next and booked us there.  Why are we roughing it in the Alburgues?  Mostly to meet and bond with other pilgrims.  However, for a few bucks more we have towels, a bed with sheets, a private bathroom and breakfast,
